Let me start off by saying that I believe Islam is of the Devil, but that I do not support burning the Qur’an. I’m far more committed to the first statement than to the second. Here’re a couple links to the story: Yahoo! and The Guardian. At least The Guardian tries to give both sides.
Okay, you read ‘em? Good. So here’s what makes me want to blast off and being chewing my own arm to remain sane. The “Religion of Peace” is historically a blood-thirsty, take-dominion-by-the-sword, death-to-the-infidel religion. Say it ain’t so. It’s so. Islam started that way. Islam has grown that way. Islam is still that way. Now, your Muslim neighbor maybe friendly as the day is long. Love that neighbor, speak the Gospel to them and pray for them. However, two things must be noted about westernized Muslims: 1) They don’t accurately reflect historic Islam any more than the lesbian, eskimo, bishop lady down the street at the United Methodist Church accurately reflects historic Christianity. 2) Sleeper Muslims will, of course, not draw any attention to themselves – they’d be mild, liberal Muslims, that is, until it’s time to massacre the infidel. Don’t forget outright lying is permissible to Muslims in such cases. The policy and varied uses of Taqiyya make Islam (and Muslims) inherently untrustworthy.

Piss Christ
Now, Islam is what it is. My problem is the self-deception of the West (“Religion of Peace” and all) and, even more, with the talking heads that continually tell us that Islam is our friend, while Islam overruns the West. The bleeding hearts come out with “righteous indignation” when someone talks about burning the Qur’an (which, again, I’m against), but are silent about those that threaten death to the guy who threatens to burn a book. The desire to pander to and ingratiate ourselves with Muslims worldwide is like putting the noose around our own neck.

Bomb Head Muhammad
Piss Christ is “art” and provokes an outcry. Bomb Turban Muhammad is a cartoon and provokes riots and murders. Where are the bleeding hearts when threats of murder and murderous actions occur? They’re opposing the burning of a book.

The way the left takes to Islam is utterly mystifying. The only way to explain it is by realizing that man’s rebellion against God is so utterly whole hearted and insane that man will destroy himself before submitting to a loving Savior. Where do they think their women’s rights will go? Religious freedom? Educational opportunities? Beloved healthcare?
As to the Qur’an burning I haven’t been following, but my knee jerk reaction was that that church is bumbling into a photo op for the left to make us all look ridiculous. If you want to fight Islam preach the Gospel and practice Covenental Renewal Worship. But wait, we have given up liturgy. Pretty much given up the Lord’s Supper. Given up the Christian Sabbath, given up singing the Psalms…
Piss Christ is propaganda, not art.
If I will be so arrogant to define art.
Indeed, it is odd that setting fire to a so called ‘holy book’ gets everyone up in arms, yet threats of violence get a pass. The church in FL that is planning to do this is about as radical fundamentalist as they come, from what I can tell. I don’t think it is the smartest thing in the world to set fire to the religious text of your enemies. Historically speaking, you never come off looking like an upstanding citizen with such tactics.
I also like how you agree with the seemingly radical idea that Islam is of the devil, yet in a sense that is not likely the same as our pyromaniac friends in FL. That is, I assume that you mean Islam is of the devil in the same sense that Hinduism is of the devil, and Mormonism is of the devil. You can make a blanket statement like that since even the warm-fuzzy Muslims are following a false religion, which makes its origins demonic by definition. And it holds even more demonstrably true in light of Islam’s true nature.
Thanks for the thoughtful post.
Tim, I really appreciate your thoughts here – they reflect what I have been thinking too – we’re all fired up about a book burning when the Western world is being run over by Islam, which is something we should be more concerned about. Blessings.
If it’s your aim, adherents of Islam will be just as offended if you preach Christ, but the Word of God doesn’t come back void, unlike the ashes of book.
